Formerly globecareers.com, workopolis.com was launched in January 2000, and it claims to be Canada's largest employment-related website offering more than 50,000 jobs daily[citation needed].
Workopolis launched its French version in September 2001. Keeping in character with its English sibling sites, it advertises three times more jobs than any other career site in Quebec.

Where to search
Create a list of places where jobs are posted and check them daily. You can start here:
- Your local daily and weekly newspapers and their websites.
- The big job sites – Monster, Careerbuilder, and Yahoo Hotjobs.
- USAjobs for a list of government jobs.
- Craigslist. Don’t underestimate the potential of this site! Many employers know it caters to a younger, web-savvy audience.
- Job search engines like SimplyHired, Job Central or Indeed.
- Specialized job resources, like Mediabistro for media jobs, or MedHunters for medical professionals. Look for sites that tell you how many jobs are posted – that will help you ignore the phony ones and the little guys.
- Your state’s employment office can be found at Job-hunt.org.
Read the job posting carefully
Tailor your resume to fit the skills specific employers are seeking, and follow all instructions. If they say no calls, don’t call!
Give yourself a break
Search hard, but not obsessively. Keep other things on your agenda besides just job searching – go for walks, do some cooking, or run some errands. Your mind will stay fresher if you give it some breaks.
Research
Look at industry data – Read job forecasts to see which careers are hot and which are looking grim. Start with the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ handy resource: The Occupational Outlook Handbook. Careerbuilder.com has its own version.
Research the places you’d like to work - Check their “About us” section and their media/press pages. Is your prospective company expanding/contracting? Many sites specialize in researching other companies – Hoover’s or Vault.com are a few. Be sure to Google and Facebook search your interviewer!
Search yourself – There’s a good chance your employer is going to search you before you even step in the door. Be on the lookout for anything that’s less than flattering – you might get asked about it.
